3 Gifts You Didn’t Know Your Family Wanted

Wondering what people want for Christmas? We were wondering too – so we recently asked Harris Interactive® to conduct a study on our behalf. The online survey was held November 30 through December 2, 2009, and gave us insights for those on the hunt for the perfect gift.

Here’s what they found: the best gifts this holiday season are those that save time, help connect with friends and family or gifts that upgrade what they already have.

Take the hint:

1. Give the gift of time.

More than 60% of respondents said they want “more time” in their stocking. In fact, those who have children are the most likely to wish for more time. Consider gifts that save people time, eliminate a chore, or give more quality time, like a gift card for a night at the restaurant together – they’ll thank you for it now, and thank you again for it later.

2. Help them achieve their resolution.

Nearly 70% of respondents said they would resolve to stay better connected with friends and family in the New Year. Sign them up for an online photo sharing site, or make a family calendar.

3. Give them gifts they can use with what they have.

60% of respondents said they plan to upgrade or accessorize things they already own in the coming year. Know someone who just got an HDTV? Get them a BlueRay DVD player. Got a camera? Give them an Eye-Fi card.

Here’s what else we found:

  • One in three people feel guilty for not sharing photos with friends and family often enough
  • Throw out the age old theory that women are the only ones who want to connect with family. The research shows that men and women both want to keep in touch with friends and family – 64% of men and 72% of women want to stay better connected in the New Year
  • Want to get it all in 1 perfect gift? Give the Eye-Fi card. Happy Holidays ☺

Harris Interactive® fielded the Photo Sharing study on November 30 – December 2, 2009 via its QuickQuerySM online omnibus service, interviewing a nationwide sample of 2,344 U.S. adults aged 18 years and older. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated. .
