A Halloween Trick with an Eye-Fi Card

Last year for halloween, I took photos of most of the trick or treaters that visited our home.  I made sure to ask each one of them what they were dressed as and if we could take a photo of them.  The trick or treaters didn’t mind the question about who their character was or if we could take a pics of them. But it dawned on me that most of my neighbors would not get a chance to see these photos because they were not my friends on flickr or anywhere else I planned to upload my photos.

For Halloween this year, I wanted to do something different.  I wanted to share my photos with my neighbors.  But how do I do that? do I give them a card with my flickr feed url? I can leverage a really cool feature of the Eye-Fi Card – Upload the photos to iPhoto and display them on a computer monitor. That’s what I did.  I attached an external monitor to my Macbook Pro which was displayed in the front window of the house. Along with uploading to the photos to iPhoto, I also set up the Eye-Fi Card to upload the photos to Flickr. Another great example of a similar setup comes from the guys at lifehacker.

Now that I had things set up, I was ready for trick or treaters. As they came by I asked them if I can take a photo of them. As they left I let them know to watch for the photo to be displayed on the monitor by the front window.  It was pretty amazing to hear their reactions to seeing their own photos as they walked away.  This is a great way to use your Eye-Fi Card and it’s very engaging and generates lots of ‘wows!!!!’
