We’re off to a good start to the new year.
We are honored. Actually, who are we kidding? We are gleeful, giddy, thrilled! For the second year in a row, Eye-Fi won the Last Gadget Standing contest at the Consumer Electronics Show.
In case you’re not familiar with Last Gadget, it’s a demo competition among the 10 best gadgets at CES. An organization called NetShelter runs it and it’s guided by Robin Raskin, a long-time journalist with the likes of PC Magazine, Family PC and Yahoo! Tech.
Each company gets 4 minutes to present their product, and at the end, the audience votes for the best one by applause. You can read all about them at www.lastgadgetstanding.com. This year we showed off the new video upload capability that we are working on.
There were a lot of good, innovative products in this competition. It turns out there are a lot of ways to demonstrate a new product and we saw many of them today.
Our way was to shoot videos during the competition and wirelessly upload them instantly, right there in front of everyone. But, we did it with a little surprise for the audience.
A couple nights before, some of us just happened to see this great Johnny Cash act at the hotel. It was pretty great, so we shot some video and uploaded it to YouTube to share with friends and colleagues back home. The artist — Jackson Cash is his stage name — was not only a very convincing Man in Black, but a great guy too.
But, for the Last Gadget Standing contest, instead of just showing the video of him performing, we actually had him appear on stage and perform an Eye-Fi’d version of Folsom Prison Blues called Photo Prison Blues. He wrote all the lyrics himself. You can check it out in the video below or on the Eye-FI YouTube page. After we won, Jackson got to do an encore too. This time it was Ring of Fire in it’s original form.
Lastly, we’d like to offer a big thank you to all our fans who voted for us online, and especially to those who went out of their way to visit our booth at CES to say hello. We appreciate your stories and support.
