Are you an advanced Eye-Fi user, always shooting on-the-go and needing an iPad solution? Then let us introduce you to ShutterSnitch. ShutterSnitch is a third party app available for download on iTunes and enables you to download photos from your Eye-Fi enabled camera to your iPad, provided they’re both under the same wireless network.
Here’s a great video explaining what ShutterSnitch can do for you!

Any tips?
- You’ll need to be at a computer for setup.
- The iPad replaces your computer as a destination for your photos, can’t do both at once
- Turn off online sharing for both photos and videos, turn off Hotspot Access and disable Relayed Mode. Note: you’ll have to plug in your Eye-Fi card for these changes and restart Eye-Fi Helper after changing these settings.
- In ShutterSnitch, set up the Eye-Fi card by adding your Eye-Fi username and password.
- Both the iPad and the Eye-Fi card need to be on the same wireless network. You can easily make this an on-the-go solution with a Trendnet wireless pocket router (about $80, no monthly charge) or with your Mi-Fi (service fee may apply) for example.
- Finally, add a new collection in ShutterSnitch.
- Take your photos!
We’re very excited to see a solution for iPad come to life! To celebrate we’re giving away a free ShutterSnitch code every day this week on our Facebook Page – so join our Facebook community today!

Really Cool!!!
Just got this working on my iPad, it’s super cool.
Dang, now I really need an iPad too. Hoping to resist the urge.
This will work with an iPhone and iPad also.
It has taken me quite a while to figure out how this works. It was not working on my home WiFi. Photos always ended on my computer. and not on my iPad.
Finally to night I decided to connect with my iPad to my Verizon MiFi and it looks like it is working., using ShutterSnitch. So you do need a router or a MiFi to be able to upload photos on the iPad instantly. I also put my computer to sleep, if you try to do this at home or office…..I had read you should do this..
It would me much cooler if you can send it directly from camera to ipad.
That would made the function of endless memories really work great!
Think about how picture will be taken and you can just view it on ipad!
Please develop a software so it can transfer directly to iphone or ipad.
I am waiting for your development.
Thanks
Hi Pamongkol,
Thanks for your suggestion – feel free to add it our Feature Request Forum at http://forums.eye.fi
I bought the EyeFi Pro x2 to be able to download photos directly from the camera to my computer/iPad, without the need of a Wi-Fi.
Good when traveling.
Can I do this without third party software?
Hi there,
You can download photos directly to your computer by using the ad hoc feature. Unfortunately the iPad does not support that feature, so it is not possible to download directly onto your iPad without Wi-Fi.
I have a few questions:
1. Am I able to load to an IPad and Mac?
2. Am I able to load to any two devices at the same time?
3. Why when I attempt this dual load I must wait for a long time period before I can load to any device>
4. What can I do to improve load to my IPad speed. I have a Zalip wireless mobile router
Hi Antonio,
You cannot upload to 2 devices at once, but you can change which device you transfer to anytime (that will apply to photos you take after making the change).
Can i use Eyefi Pro to skip the pocket router? as Eyefi pro support adhoc tranfer.
Yes, with the Eye-Fi Pro X2 you can transfer photos & videos directly to your laptop (Mac, Vista, or windows 7) without a pocket router by using an ad hoc connection. Visit support.eye.fi for a tutorial on how to get set up with ad hoc.
The iPad does not support ad hoc however so as of now you need a pocket router to transfer content to the iPad.
Wait a minute… this isn’t a solution! You mean I have to have my computer present in order to do this?! Hell, might as well use a laptop!
Someone needs to make an app that will let you import straight from camera to ipad. THAT would be a good solution. (bc I don’t have a laptop I have a 27″ iMac, and if I’m out on a photoshoot, … well you get the picture.)
Hi Violet,
With Direct Mode the scenario you are describing will be possible. Keep tuned for news on its launch.
I have just spent the day in the middle of a field miles from anywhere taking photos of flowers with the images coming up on the iPad for the client to see. Eye fi and Shuttersnitch are amazing !!
I have an HTC Desire which has a pre installed app called “wifi hotspot” with both the Eye fi card and the iPad set to the HTC wifi network the images pop up in a couple of seconds !
Thank you Eye fi and Shuttersnitch for making my life so much easier !!
I have been using an eye-fi card since the first generation. And with a mobile wifi router, I could transfer my photos and videos wirelessly to my laptop anytime.
Now, with the Direct Mode feature, Shuttersnitch and an iPad setup — this is the best mobile setup for serious outdoor photography. Talk about instant gratification!
It’s worth every penny.
I have a Canon 5D Mark 11 and the Eye-Fi will NOT work with this model. I purchased the I-Pad with this in mind so I am fed up that my idea of having a lightweight viewer with me on assignments is currently useless. I am hoping that maybe its a firmware problem with Canon. But I doubt it
Hi Roger,
The incompatibility stems from the format: the 5DMarkii is a Compact Flash format, while Eye-Fi cards are SDHC cards – a firmware change will not solve that.
