Yesterday we mentioned that we would have more news to share… Today we have announced a new feature of the Eye-Fi Card called “Smart Boost” as well as a new retail and online relationship with Ritz Camera.
The upcoming “Smart Boost” update, available by February 12, will make wireless photo uploads with the Eye-Fi Card more efficient and improve the upload experience by enabling the Eye-Fi Card to intelligently determine the most efficient way to upload your photos where you want them.
With Smart Boost, when your computer is on, the Eye-Fi Card will direct photo transfers through your Wi-Fi network to your computer, allowing the Eye-Fi Manager software to relay the photos to the Web. This approach leverages the speed of your local network to transfer photos from the camera, reducing card activity and saving battery life.
In cases when your computer is off, the Eye-Fi Card will automatically send photos from the camera, through your home Wi-Fi network, to the Web-based Eye-Fi Service. The Eye-Fi Service will then deliver images to a photo sharing site and to your computer when it is eventually turned on. In this approach, the speed at which images are transferred from the camera is paced by the home’s Internet connection.
Our new relationship with Ritz Camera for the first time brings the Eye-Fi Card to “brick and mortar” retail stores as well as allowing Eye-Fi Card users the ability to automatically upload photos to the RitzPix Online Imaging Service. Ritz, whose store brands include, Ritz Camera Centers, Wolf’s Camera, Kit’s Camera and others has over 1000 camera centers across the United States. This new online and retail combination enables customers the ability to automatically upload their photos, order prints online and pick them up in an hour from most Ritz locations.
So, if you are in Vegas this week for PMA 08, drop by booth # U237 and smile for the camera and catch an Eye-Fi Card demonstration.
