A couple other nice features would be an auto preview with the option to preview on other monitors. I would use this so my models can see their images as I take them.

Another great feature would be to upload via FTP maybe in a compressed zip format.

Maybe integration with Lightroom / Aperture would be nice for some too.

Hi Robert, I’ve good news for you – you can already send directly to an FTP/FTPs. Just choose “FTP” as your online sharing site, enter your credentials, and voila! I’m not sure what you mean by the auto preview function, but the Eye-Fi Pro X2 allows you to do ad hoc to a laptop if you wanted. 2. I have the eye-fi 4gb Pro card in my Nikon D60 and love it! Also, I installed the Eye-Fi Manager software on my HP dv6 notebook coupled to my Linksys Wi-Fi ‘n’ home network. Now, after a $100 spent for the Pro, you already have the upgraded class 6 speed, twice the storage of 4gb, ‘n’ speed upload/ download. If I install the new Eye-Fi Center and cannot use the Eye-Fi Manager, does it make my current Pro card antique?
I like that the new Pro 8gb X2 Pro supports RAW files and has class 6 speed and full use of wi-fi N networks.
Eye-Fi website lists the price of the X2 at $149.00 and Amazon is selling it for $199.00! I wouldn’t buy anything @ list price and then give the cashier an extra $50.00

    • caroline says:

      Hi Richard,
Eye-Fi Center works with ALL Eye-Fi cards, so your Pro won’t be antiquated. Unfortunately we don’t control Amazon prices, but feel free to use the “buy now” drop down option on the Eye-Fi Pro X2 product page for alternative ways of buying the Eye-Fi Pro X2

Caroline, (what a pretty name…), My questions are; is there a cost to down loading Eye-Fi Center? And, if I do download it, what happens to my Eye-Fi Manager?

    • caroline says:

      Hi Paul,

The Eye-Fi Center replaces your Eye-Fi Manager, and is free to download.

      • Paul Sweeney says:

Miss “C”, ok, that’s terrific; I’ll download it in a minute, but, I wanted to ask you another question. I have a 2G card; is there a way to only upload pictures from my camera by date? What I am trying to get at is, I’m taking progressive pictures of a house that’s being built; if I take 10 pictures today and upload them, and, then I take another 5 tomorrow, are the same 10 pictures that I took today going to upload tomorrow, when I upload the other 5? Or, do I have to keep deleting after I upload each time?

        • caroline says:

          Hi Paul,
There are a few options for you to upload. By default, you can upload all the photos, and only the photos that haven’t already been transferred are uploaded (so the photos that were transferred yesterday won’t transfer again today from the card). The Eye-Fi card never duplicates uploads. If you don’t want to transfer *all* the photos you took, you can also use “Selective Transfer” under “Transfer Mode” in the settings panel, and only the photos that you mark with the “protect” or “lock” function on your camera will upload.

          • Paul Sweeney says:

Miss “C”, again, that’s terrific info. I downloaded Eye-Fi Center already; I guess I’m awaiting confirmation that everything went okay. It said something about checking on any “firewalls”, but, they’ve been turned off, as far as I know…Again, thanks for the info above…it was good talking with you…Paul

    Hello,

    1. Can a representative from Eye-Fi please tell me what is the max distance that I could expect (between camera and laptop) with an ad-hoc connection if using an N class capable laptop? (I see no published numbers here)

    2. Do any users have any practical knowledge/experience with this?

    Thank you!

  5. Memote says:

    • caroline says:

      Hi Memote,
1- Your photos & videos can be transferred in “local only” mode, in which case they never go up to the internet.
2 – Yes, your Eye-Fi card will use configured networks to upload content (remember, your camera must be on)
3 – Automatic uploads are the default – you can edit settings in Eye-Fi Center, under the setting “Transfer Mode”
4 – No, you can’t upload to a NAS drive
5 – When you upload to your computer, photos go from camera to local router to computer. When you upload online, they go from camera to router to internet (our servers) to your online sharing site.
6 – You can specify which folder you want your photos & videos to go to (in fact, photos & videos can go to different folders). You can choose to have date-based subfolders (so a folder inside that says “April 09 2010″ etc – custom date formats are available)
7 – You can specify 1 computer and 1 online sharing destination at a time. In Eye-Fi Center, you can pick your latest uploads and share them on a different site (so you can automatically share on Facebook, and then use Center to share all or part of your uploads on your FTP)

  6. Ralph says:

Can a card be configured so it will upload to two different computers (2-Mac Pros) in the same household on the same network (not simultaneously of course)?

    • caroline says:

      HI Ralph,
You can change the computer to which the Eye-Fi card uploads anytime. However, the card will never upload the same photo or video twice. So if photos have been uploaded to Mac Pro #1, these same photos won’t automatically upload again to Mac Pro #2.

  7. joseph says:

when is there going to be a cf card from eye-fi ?
lightroom just came with tethering , or will be when lightroom 3 comes out. can you make a plug in that would work with it so lightroom does not have to watch a folder? it just takes way to long to get it in to light room that way….

  11. Ken says:

    Hello Caroline,

You mentioned that FTPs go out over the internet through your (Eye-Fi’s) servers to the “online service”. If my FTP site is strictly internal to my home network (for example an FTP site exposed by my NAS device) is there a way to avoid the internet round trip? I’d like to avoid loading more software on my or my wife’s laptop if possible.

    Thanks,
    Ken

    • caroline says:

      Hi Ken,
You can use your router in local only mode to send media to your computer without going through the internet, but that is not currently possible for devices that are not supported by the Eye-Fi Center desktop software. A work around is mapping the drive to a computer that has the software – but in that case the computer would have to be on to receive the photos.

  12. Daryl says:

    Hi Caroline:

I’m thinking about buying the 4gb X2. I currently use the HP Photosmart Essential application to manage my photos on my PC. How will Eye-Fi integrate (or conflict) with my existing set up? Can I continue using the HP application with Eye-Fi or do I have to use Eye-Fi View?

    Thanks.

    Daryl

    • caroline says:

      Hi Daryl,
You decide where you want your photos & videos to go. You can set your Eye-Fi card to go in any folder on your computer. The Eye-Fi software is there to help you tell your card which networks to use, where to drop the photos & videos, enable features like Endless Memory and Eye-Fi View, and to remind you where everything was delivered. It’s a dashboard and should not interfere with any other photo & video management software. Eye-Fi View is an added bonus; it adds your photos & videos to a private account in the cloud, so you can go to your friend’s computer, type center.eye.fi, and see where your content has been delivered, and share & download the last 7 days of activity in full resolution. When you’re done, log out, and no one else can see your content.
      Hope this helps!

    Hello everybody,

I need to use the eye-fi card with a wireless router which is NOT connectect to the internet. I cannot set up the software because it is searching for some eye-fi server. Any solutions?
    Thanks,
    Emanuel

    • caroline says:

      HI Emmanuel,

You need internet to get the Eye-Fi card set up at first; one of the things it will do is check if it has the latest firmware and make sure your Eye-Fi card and software are up to date.

  14. Kennychanky says:

    Hi there,

I know that “Connect x2 4gb” need internet to get the Eye-Fi card set up. After that, can it do photo transfer wirelessly only using router without internet access?

    Thanks,
    Kennychanky
