Eye-Fi Event Tips

Here at Eye-Fi, we love to party! Follow these tips from our party experts to have a fun and flawless event enhanced by wireless photo uploads from your Eye-Fi card!

Before you begin…

Confirm all cameras you are planning on using at the event are Eye-Fi compatible.
Check support.eye.fi for supported cameras.

Card Set-Up Tips:

Configure your Eye-Fi card(s) for the event:

  • Walk through step-by step registration with each Eye-Fi card. Note: You can have multiple cards configured to one Eye-Fi account. For live slide shows, all cards must be sending photos into the same folder on your computer and it is recommended that you select the “Do not create date-based subfolders” option during card set-up.
  • Once registration is complete, set-up your card(s) to automatically tag all of your photos with “Effortlessly uploaded by Eye-Fi”. To do this, go to “Card Settings”, click “Photos” then “Online. Select your online photo sharing site where the photos will be uploaded and click “edit”. Select “Show Advanced Options” then check “Add Tags” and enter the keyword “Eye-Fi”. Next, check “Add Description” and enter “Effortlessly uploaded by Eye-Fi” then select “Save”.
  • In the same area, you can also add any tags about your Eye-Fi Sponsored Event/Party. Examples of tags include sponsor names, event name, location, etc.
  • For events in one location, we generally recommend turning off geotagging to prevent any interference with live slide shows. To do this, click on the “Geotagging” tab and turn off geotagging.

How To Set-Up Automatic Notifications:

If you wish to set-up your Eye-Fi card(s) to automatically send Twitter and Facebook notifications when you upload photos you can do so by following these steps.

Login to the Eye-Fi Center, click on “Card Settings”, click “Notifications” and select the notification type you’d like. You can even set Twitter hashtags to appear in your notifications!

To turn off automatic notifications, simply remove any existing notifications.

Network Tricks:

Before your event, make sure you have your card(s) configured to a reliable network at the event venue. Prior to the event, scan the air to find a vacant Wi-Fi channel and use that one. Also, use routers with large antennas for maximum network coverage at your event!

  • How to add and delete networks on your Eye-Fi card(s)
  • Configuring your camera to take smaller JPEG suitable for the the resolution of the screen you are using will speed photo transfer. See you camera’s manual for instructions on how to do this.
  • The typical range when uploading over Wi-Fi is 90 feet (27 m) outdoors and 45 (13 m) feet indoors. Ranges vary greatly based on the specific conditions.
