what is geotagging?
With geotagging, your JPEG photos are labeled, or “tagged”, to show where they were taken. What does that mean, exactly? View photos on a map. Search photos by location. And, 2 years after coming back from Venice, you can see that it’s in Italy (without resorting to Wikipedia!)… all without lifting a finger.
geotagging & iPhoto
When photos are automatically geotagged, they are easily searchable in iPhoto by location in “Places”. Type in “new york” and you’ll see your latest photos from the trip. iPhoto can also automatically organize photos on a map when you’re making a photo album.
gets you organized
With an Eye-Fi card and Geotagging, the photos fly right into iPhoto, or Flickr, or any other geo-friendly service. They automatically become searchable in Places or on a map by city name or country.

geotagging on your computer
Desktop applications like iPhoto ‘09, Adobe’s Photoshop Elements 6 (PC only), Google’s Picasa (PC only), Ovolabs Geophoto (Mac only) and Microsoft’s Pro Photo Tools (PC only) allow you to browse, search and organize photos according to where they were taken.
happens automatically
With Eye-Fi’s Geotagging Service, you take the photos, and let Eye-Fi do the rest. You won’t have to spend your time downloading, importing, or entering the info for every single photo. Just turn your camera on, and photos fly wirelessly, embedded with their geotags. Snap photos. Turn your camera on. Voila!

upgrade your card
Geotagging is available as a lifetime upgrade for your card for only $29.99.
geotagging online
Websites like Flickr, Picasa, Nikon myPicturetown, PhanPhare and SmugMug allow you to browse through your photos on a map, search by location, and transform your latest trip into a journey friends and family can partake in.

worldwide coverage
The Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) already covers millions of locations worldwide and is constantly expanding. Most metropolitan areas are already covered and coverage is rapidly expanding.
so how does Eye-Fi’s Geotagging Service work?
Geotagging is made possible through Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) technology. Using built-in Wi-Fi, the Eye-Fi Card senses surrounding Wi-Fi networks as you take pictures. When photos are uploaded, the Eye-Fi Service then adds the geotags to your photos.
the technology behind WPS
The WPS system maps the locations of millions of Wi-Fi networks around the world. The Eye-Fi Service adds the geotag to each photo’s metadata section (the EXIF header) when photos are uploaded.
WPS leverages the Wi-Fi technology embedded in the Eye-Fi card to make it easy to get organized with your trips.
how to upgrade
Simply log into your Eye-Fi Center desktop software and choose which card you would like to upgrade.
Click on settings or access the settings panel by clicking on the settings wheel

Click on the Geotagging tab and click on “Upgrade”

Complete the purchase process – you will be able to activate Geotagging on your card within 15min of your purchase by checking the “enable” box under the Geotagging option.
do I have to be at a hotspot for geotagging to work?
WPS works whether you’ve added the wireless network to your list of uploading networks or not. This means that you don’t need to be at hotspot, and you don’t need to have the network key, for your photos to be geotagged. There simply needs to be Wi-Fi networks within range.
can I disable geotagging if I don’t want it anymore?
You can enable or disable geotagging at any time. It’s on a per card basis, so you could have geotagging enable for “Mom’s Eye-Fi card” for example but not for “Dad’s Eye-Fi card”.
how accurate is the geotagging?
That really depends on where you are – most big cities downtown have a lot of Wi-Fi signals, so the geotagging can be as accurate as a couple feet from your location.
how is WPS geotagging different from GPS?
WPS geotagging does not rely on satellites; it relies on Wi-Fi networks that have been mapped. Because of this, WPS is most reliable indoors, where GPS is the least reliable. Inversely, WPS is the least accurate in large rural areas or remote locations. They complement each other if you have both!
what happens if WPS can’t find Wi-Fi networks? does it still add information?
WPS Geotagging only adds information to your card if it’s within range of Wi-Fi networks. If it cannot find Wi-Fi around, the location will simply not be recorded for that image or video.
I have a GPS unit for my camera. Does WPS geotagging override that information?
If the camera or a GPS unit adds geotagging information to the image or video, WPS will not override it. WPS Geotagging is only added if no other geolocation data has been added to the file.
